Floor tiling — your questions answered
Can you lay large-format tiles?
Yes. Large formats need a flat substrate and full adhesive coverage, which we allow for in the quote.
Do I need a levelling compound?
Only if the subfloor is uneven. We check before starting and tell you if it's needed.
Can you tile over floorboards?
Yes, with the correct build-up — usually overboarding or an uncoupling membrane to handle movement.
What is Ditra used for?
It is an uncoupling membrane that isolates tiles from subfloor movement and helps prevent cracked tiles and grout.
Can you tile over underfloor heating?
Yes, we tile over installed heating systems. We don't wire or commission the heating itself.
How long before I can walk on it?
Typically around 24 hours after fixing, and after grouting for full use. We'll confirm on site.
Can you lay herringbone or patterns?
Yes. Patterned layouts take longer and use more tile, which is reflected in the quote.
Do you fit thresholds and trims?
Yes, trims and thresholds are fitted as part of the tiling where you supply them.
Do you supply the tiles?
No — TLS Tiling fits the tiles you supply. You choose and buy your tiles, and we install them with care.
Do you do full bathroom installations?
No. We are a tiling-only specialist, so no plumbing, electrics or sanitaryware fitting. We handle the tiling side of the job.
