Questions
Natural stone tiling — your questions answered
Does natural stone need sealing?
Most porous stone does, before and after grouting. You supply the sealer and we can apply it.
Why does the colour vary between tiles?
Stone is natural, so variation is normal. We dry-lay and blend boxes so it looks intentional.
Can stone go on a bathroom floor?
Yes, with the correct preparation, fixing and sealing for a wet environment.
Can you lay stone over underfloor heating?
Yes. Stone works well with underfloor heating, usually with an uncoupling membrane beneath.
Is slate suitable outdoors?
Some slate is, depending on the specification. Check the supplier's guidance for frost resistance before buying.
Do you fill travertine holes?
Pre-filled travertine is easiest; unfilled can be grout-filled during installation if you ask at quoting stage.
What grout is used with stone?
A grout suited to the stone and joint width — we'll advise so it doesn't stain or scratch the surface.
Can you cut stone on site?
Yes, we wet-cut on site and keep dust and mess controlled.
Do you supply the tiles?
No — TLS Tiling fits the tiles you supply. You choose and buy your tiles, and we install them with care.
Do you do full bathroom installations?
No. We are a tiling-only specialist, so no plumbing, electrics or sanitaryware fitting. We handle the tiling side of the job.
Which areas do you cover?
London and surrounding areas up to around 20 miles. Message us with your postcode and we'll confirm.
